ECOWAS workshop on policy and regulation for clean energy mini-grids and on the Renewable Energy Tariff Toolbox

Abuja, 22/July/2017 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in coordination with EUEI PDF and the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power and Housing, organized a 6 days’ workshop on policy and regulation for clean energy mini-grids and on the Renewable Energy Tariff Toolbox. This technical workshop was targeted to renewable energy experts, policy makers, regulators, project promoters and investors of all ECOWAS Member States and beyond.

ECREEE AT WEST AFRICA POWER SUMMIT 2017 IN SENEGAL

Praia, 19 July 2017- Energy experts and senior decision makers from across the ECOWAS region have concluded a three-day Summit in the Senegalese Capital Dakar.

Experts discussed “Renewable Energy Investment” at Banjul Consultative Meeting

A two-day consultation meeting on “Renewable Energy Investment” was held in Banjul under the auspices of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, ECREEE. The synergy was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of the Gambia in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO). The Executive Director of ECREEE, Mahama Kappiah who presided over the meeting described the energy sector as crucial for job creation.

ECOWAS validates its regional Directive on Gender Assessments in Energy Projects

Energy experts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) validated and adopted the ECOWAS Directive on Gender Assessments in Energy Projects, during a 3-day workshop held from 26 – 28 June 2017 in Accra, Ghana.

UNIDO, ECREEE and Sao Tomé e Príncipe join efforts to scale-up renewable energy and energy efficiency

SÃO TOMÉ, 13 July 2017 – UNIDO, the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Government of Sao Tomé e Príncipe agreed on the main pillars of a strategic programme, finance by the Global Environment Facility, to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in the country.  
 

ECREEE SIGNS IMPORTANT MoU WITH R20

Following the Austrian World Summit, on June 20th in Vienna, ECREEE signed a high-level partnership with R20, in order to better carry out the value chain of identification, development and financing of sub-national green infrastructure projects. After the signing, these partners were received by the R20 Founding Chair, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally thanked them for their contribution to furthering the mission.

Another Record Breaking Year for Renewable Energy: More renewable energy capacity for less money

Record power capacity of 161 GW added, for 23% less investment (USD 241.6 billion)

Today REN21 published its Renewables 2017 Global Status Report (GSR), the most comprehensive annual overview of the state of renewable energy.

Additions in installed renewable power capacity set new records in 2016, with 161 gigawatts (GW) installed, increasing total global capacity by almost 9% over 2015, to nearly 2,017 GW. Solar PV accounted for around 47% of the capacity added, followed by wind power at 34% and hydropower at 15.5%.
