2nd Coordination Meeting of ECREEE-NFIs

The second ECREEE coordination meeting with the National Focal Institutions (NFIs) took place im Kumasi, Ghana, on 27 August 2011. In the meeting the 2012 work plan, the 2011 status report, the ECREEE Business Plan, the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility (EREF), the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Observatory (EREO) and the Supporting Energy Efficiency for Access in West Africa (SEEA-WA) project were discussed.

ECREEE Training Workshop

GIS Energy Planning and RETScreen Training, 22 to 26 August, Kumasi, Ghana

The regional training workshop on GIS Energy Access Planning and RETScreen Clean Energy Project Analysis will take place from 22 to 26 August 2011 in Kumasi, Ghana. The workshop is jointly organized by ECREEE in cooperation with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and The Technology Energy Centre (TEC) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana.

Global Report on Renewable Energy

Recently, three international flag-ship reports on renewable energy were published by UNEP, REN-21 and IPCC. The findings of the studies lights the way for ECREEE and other like-minded organizations in the energy sector.

The reports are:

Executive Board members of ECREEE meet in Ghana

As part of its work programme for 2011, the Board members of ECREEE will be meeting in Accra, from the 5th to 6th of July, to conduct a mid-year review and to provide guidance on strategic issues.

The draft agenda for the meeting includes:

  1. Adoption of the report of the second Board meeting;
  2. Consideration of the ECREEE 2010 Audited Financial Statement;
  3. Consideration of the 2011 mid-term Status Report of ECREEE;
  4. Presentation of the ECREEE Business Plan 2011-2015.

The 3rd conference of the African Renewable Energy Alliance (AREA) on "Renewable Energy & Gender" was held in cooperation with ECREEE from June 29 – July 01, 2011 in Abuja, Nigeria.

BizClim Approves ECREEE Project

The ACP Business Climate Facility (BizClim) has approved the ECREEE Project “Promoting Investments in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Sector in West Africa”, with a budgetary support of 348,000.00 Euros. The project aims to introduce legal and regulatory reforms to promote innovative Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) for tackling climate change and to create an enabling environment for investments and finance in mitigation actions for renewable energy and energy efficiency environmental projects in targeted ECOWAS countries.
