Praia - The Fifth Executive Board Meeting of the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) held on Friday 13th April 2012 at the ECREEE Secretariat in Praia, Cape Verde.
During the ECOWAS High Level Energy Forum the ECOWAS Ministers of Energy approved the ECOWAS program for small-scale hydro power program and a regional bioenergy strategy framework.
ECREEE in cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) are jointly organizing a four-day training workshop on renewable energy policies, incentive schemes and planning tools from 09th to 12th of April 2012, in Praia, Cape Verde.
ECREEE supports trainings on the RETScreen Clean Project Analysis Software in all fifteen ECOWAS countries. The workshops aim at strengthening the capacities on financial structuring of RE&EE projects and the establishment of a regional training network.
Deadline extended! ECREEE offers financial support for a limited number of qualified small hydro experts from the ECOWAS region to participate in the small hydro workshop in Liberia, from 16 to 20 April 2012. Interested applicants are asked to send an electronic application by e-mail at latest by 12 March 2012. The applications guidelines are available on the workshop website.
ECREEE in cooperation with its partners from the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) are organising a Regional Bioenergy Froum from 19th – 22nd March 2012 in Bamako, Mali. The registration is open.
A Regional Bioenergy Strategy Framework was adopted at the ECOWAS Bioenergy Forum held on the 19th of March 2012. The strategy seeks to enable and promote domestic and foreign investments that help to address energy poverty prevailing in the region both in rural and peri-urban areas.
ECREEE/UNIDO is undertaking a stakeholder and capacity needs assessment in the small scale hydro sector in the ECOWAS. The survey aims at identifying the training needs of different stakeholders. SHP experts are asked to fill the questionnaires and return them to [email protected] as soon as possible.
The ECOWREX was launched during the ECOWAS High Level Energy Forum. It informs market enablers and investors on renewable energy potentials, contacts and projects.
ECREEE intends to award 41 projects with an overall grant amount of around 1 million Euro. An overview on the approved projects can be found in the section of the ECOWAS Renwable Energy Facility (EREF).
