CENTRE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE OF CABO VERDE INAUGURATED

March 10, 2015 – A huge step has been taken by the Government of Cabo Verde in order to build capacities on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The Centre of Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) of Cabo Verde has been officially inaugurated, by H.E. Mr. Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, President of Cabo Verde and His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Mr. Henri Albert G.E.M. Guillaume. The Construction of the training centre is framed on the long-lasting history of collaboration and cooperation between the two States.

ECREEE PARTICIPATES IN CABO VERDE – LUXEMBOURG BUSINESS FORUM

March 10, 2015 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) participated in a Business Forum held in Praia, organized by the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services of Cabo Verde on renewable energy and maritime economy. The forum also aggregated the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg, business and project promoters.

ECREEE kicks-off project on developing the pioneering Gender and Energy Policy

In partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United States-based National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), organized an inception workshop to launch the project on developing the ECOWAS Policy for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access.

ECREEE’s global campaign on Youth Empowerment in Energy receives patronage from the First Lady of Cabo Verde

The First Lady of Cabo, Her Excellency Mrs Ligia Lubrino Fonseca, on Friday, 13 February 2015, accepted to be the patroness of the global campaign on Youth Empowerment in Energy. This was during a meeting held at the Presidential Palace with ECREEE's staff: Ms. Monica Maduekwe, Ms. Vera Monteiro and Ms. Salett Nogueira.

ECREEE/AFDB/NREL ORGANIZES KICK-OFF MEETING TO LAUNCH THE PROJECT FOR THE FIRST EVER GENDER AND ENERGY POLICY IN HISTORY

Praia, Cabo Verde (10 February 2015) - An inception workshop to launch the project on developing the ‘ECOWAS Policy for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access’ has been scheduled for 24 February 2015, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

WORKING VISIT TO ECREEE - ECOWAS COMMISSIONERS OF GENDER & HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Two Commissioners from the ECOWAS Commission paid a working visit to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) on February 3, 2015 with the purpose to familiarize themselves with the projects and activities of this laudable ECOWAS agency mandated to promote market penetration of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the sub-region.

Women’s economic empowerment projects receive financial boost

Two projects in the ECOWAS region have been awarded with €20,000 each. These are the “Promotion of Anomena improved LPG stoves as a clean energy initiative for cooking”, by Anomena Ventures in Ghana, and the “Economic Empowerment of Bargny business women”, by Action Solidaire international in Senegal.
 

New Studies Released on Lighting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched a set of three studies on efficient lighting, with a special emphasis in the ECOWAS region. These studies are in line with the vision of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), which is to ensure the access to energy, with a focus on the use of renewable sources.

On January 8, 2015 the government of Cabo Verde re-affirmed its commitment to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), by hosting a handover ceremony of land earmarked for the construction of ECREEE’s headquarters.
