Projects awarded with ACP-EU Energy Facility grant

In cooperation with other partners ECREEE proposed several project proposals to the second call of the EU-ACP Energy Facility. Two projects were recommended for co-funding by the Evaluation Committee of the Facility. The project “Supporting Energy Efficiency for Access in West Africa (SEEA-WA)” will co-fund parts of the regional energy efficiency program of ECREEE.

Bonn Symposium 2010

Bonn symposium 2010 “New Energy Sources - New conflicts?”, focusing on Rules and Strategies for a Global Access to Renewable Energies, is organized by the Development and Peace Foundation (SEF) in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) and supported by Stiftung Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschalnd and Deutsche Welle, Bonn.

ECREEE and ITC seek Cooperation

ECREEE participated at the “Seminário sobre o Sistema de Energia em Cabo Verde”, held in Praia (Cape Verde) on the 26th of November 2010 during which it made a presentation on “Promoting Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Solutions in the ECOWAS Region: the Role of ECREEE”. The event was organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ITC) and the General Directorate of Energy of the Ministry responsible for Energy, Cape Verde with the funding of the Canary Cooperation.

Largest Solar PV in Africa inaugurated in Praia

In line with the National Strategic Plan of Cape Verde which strives to have fifty percent of the country living on renewable energy by 2016, the Cape Verdean government awarded a contract to Martifer Solar on January 7th, 2010 for the installation of two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Cape Verde.

Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC2010)

From the 27th to the 29th of October 2010, ECREEE participated in the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC 2010) hosted by the Government of India and supported by REN21. The theme of the conference was 'Up-scaling and Mainstreaming Renewables for Energy Security, Climate Change and Economic Development". More information at www.direc2010.gov.in

Regional Workshop on the ECOWAS Solar Energy Initiative (ESEI)

ECREEE will hold a Regional Workshop on the ECOWAS Solar Energy Initiative (ESEI) from 18 to 21 October 2010 in Dakar, Senegal. The forum will highlight the potentials, benefits, costs and feasibility of solar energy based solutions for electricity generation, heating and cooling. A solar deployment plan for the ECOWAS region will be discussed and a road map adopted. Please register at latest by 12 October 2010.

The Third ECOWAS Business Forum

The action plan of the 3rd ECOWAS Business Forum, held in Abidjan on 1st October 2010, calls the ECOWAS Commission to declare the decade of energy sufficiency and recommends the development of minimum renewable energy targets which ECOWAS member states should adhere to and implement.

ECOWAS RENEWABLE ENERGY FACILITY SEEKS INTERNATIONAL FUNDING

Based on the action plan of the ECOWAS/UEMOA White Paper on Energy Access ECREEE prepared a proposal for the establishment of an ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility for West Africa. The initiative responds to action line 2 of the white paper which calls for the establishment on an investment and innovation fund for RE&EE. The fund should raise finance at least for 200 demonstration projects and support local manufacturing and service companies.
