PREPARATION OF A NATIONAL ACTION PLAN TO IMPLEMENT THE ECOWAS GENDER POLICY ON ENERGY ACCESS

On the 2nd and 3rd of July 2019, and with the support of the Spanish Cooperation AECID, ENERGIA, and the legal firm Sullivan & Cromwell, ECREEE held the inception workshop for a new project to support ECOWAS Member States in the preparation of the National Action Plans to comply with the ECOWAS Policy on Gender Mainstreaming for Energy Access.

ECOWAS institutions and agencies poised to discuss the draft Staff Regulation Framework

ABUJA, Nigeria – 20th June 2019 – Preparations are underway for a two-day meeting for heads of ECOWAS institutions and agencies on the validation of the new ECOWAS Staff Regulations Framework. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana from 8Th to 09Th July 2019.

ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Resources calls for a complete overhaul of Africa’s Economic Model

Praia, Cabo Verde - 30th May 2019 –   The Commissioner for Human Resources at the ECOWAS Commission, Professor Jeremias Dias Furtado has said that Africa needs strong leaders who should be determined to re-model the economic predicament being experienced in the continent.   Cape Verdean ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Resources, argued that the economic model imposed in Africa does not allow the desired development of the continent, suggesting a complete overhaul to reverse the situation.

ECREEE attends Africa Energy Forum 2019 in Lisbon

Praia, - 18th June 2019 - Energy Experts have concluded that indecisiveness of policymakers and failure to streamline projects as well as collaboration with international institutions hinders the development of solar projects in Africa. This was echoed at the Africa Energy Forum 2019 (AEF) held in Lisbon, Portugal from 11 – 14 June 2019. The Africa Energy Forum (AEF) is a global investment meeting for Africa’s power, energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.

Training Workshop on the ECOWAS Integrated Biogas System Officially Opens

ECREEE – Praia Cape Verde, 17th June 2019 - The Regional Training workshop on the ECOWAS Integrated Biogas System officially opened today at Songhai Regional Centre, Porto Novo, Benin. The event is a two-week training event for 18 entrepreneurs from the ECOWAS Region to enhance their skills and capacities in building biogas systems that integrates aspects related to energy, health, social, agriculture and the environment.

West African Solar Pack

Summary

The West African Solar Pack (WASP) is part of the delivery mechanism of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), led and hosted by ECREEE under the umbrella of MAMA-LIGHTÒ Initiative for Sustainable Energy. Based on the consolidated demand in the ECOWAS Member States, WASP offers a portfolio of selected solar products and solutions from trusted suppliers against competitive prices in combination with implementation support and technology transfer.

Transformational Partnership: Guinea Bissau starts detailed feasibility and design works on the 20 MW Saltinho Run-Off-River Hydropower Project

Under the guiding motto "NOW OR NEVER", the Guinea Bissau Sustainable Energy International Conference, held from 6 to 7 December 2018 in Bissau, had called for USD 700 million of investment. Now, another important mile-stone has been achieved.
 

AfDB, NEPAD-IPPF meet with ECREEE over the Business Opportunities for Women in Energy Project

From 20 – 24 May 2019, delegates from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development Infrastructure Project Preparatory Facility (NEPAD- IPPF) visited the ECREEE Secretariat in Praia, Cape Verde. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the progress of the Feasibility Study on Business Opportunities for Women in a Changing Energy Value Chain in West Africa.
