ARE promotes Atelier Off-grid B2B in Togo

Together with the Delegation of the European Union to Togo (EUD), GIZ and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Togo, ARE will co-organise the 1-day Atelier Off-grid B2B Togo on 12 June 2019 in conjunction with the Togo-EU Economic Forum championed by the EUD in Lomé on 13-14 June 2019. The event is a must-attend for anyone interested in the Togolese off-grid and mini-grid market. 

EU unveils solar tree, contributes 165m euros for renewable energy in Nigeria

Abuja, May 2 - The delegation of the European Union (EU) to Nigeria and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has unveiled a solar tree at the EU Delegation Office Complex Abuja, to highlight the union’s commitment to renewable solar energy in Nigeria.

Ambassador of the EU to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen, unveiled the solar tree on Thursday to spotlight its current actions in Nigeria and as part of activities to highlight the use of the sun as a source of energy.

ECREEE-GIZ Technical Assistance Facility for Grid-Connected RE Projects

ECREEE and GIZ are jointly implementing the regional project “Improving the governance of the RE and EE sector in West Africa (AGoSEREE-AO)” which is financed by the German Cooperation and the European Union. Among other things GIZ is assisting ECREEE to:

a) Support the development of grid-connected RE projects with the potential of becoming important projects through technical assistance (TA) and,

b) Document and disseminate the experiences with grid-connected RE projects in West Africa.

World Bank provides $200m facility to support solar off-grid access to electricity in West Africa and Sahel

The Board of the World Bank Group has approved a fund of $200m to implement the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP). The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is the leading implementing agency of the project, which aims at increasing access to electricity in West Africa and Sahel Region.

Professor Dias Jeremias, Silver-bullet to ECOWAS Human Resources Management Woes

The ECOWAS Human Resources Commission under the leadership of Professor Dias Furtado Jeremias is making substantial evolution in fashioning a proficient, viable and responsive human resources base for the sub-regional body. An accomplished scholar and a seasoned technocrat, Professor Jeremias was appointed as the  Human Resources Commissioner on 1st March 2018 but legally took office at the 80th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS council of Ministers held from 7th – 8th July 2018.

ECREEE and GGGI sign MoU on Green Growth Cooperation in West Africa

Burkina Faso, April 5th, 2019 – The ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on April 5th, on the sidelines of SEERA 2019, to cooperate on promoting green growth in West Africa.

ECREEE AND JEAN PIAGET UNIVERSITY OF CABO VERDE TO EXPLORE PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Praia, 10/April/19 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Jean Piaget University of Cabo Verde held a meeting, where both sides discussed opportunities to engage in a partnership to promote sustainable energy development. At the meeting, ECREEE presented among other initiatives, the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP) covering 19 countries.

First National Stakeholder and committee meeting on solar electricity in CAR

Bangui, Central Africa Republic – March 12th, 2019 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is organizing a series of national stakeholder meeting in order to prepare the basis for the implementation of the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP). ROGEP is a project financed by the World Bank to benefit 19 West African and Sahelian countries to enhance electricity access, through standalone solar systems.

Second Multi-stakeholder Task Force Meeting for off-grid electrification in Senegal

Dakar, March 20th 2019 – The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy of Senegal in collaboration of the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) organized the Second Meeting of the Multi-stakeholders Task Force for off-grid electrification in Senegal. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the progress made in the implementation of the Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP).

ARE & ECREEE’s new partnership to help upscale decentralised renewable energy in the ECOWAS region

Abidjan, 13 March 2019 - In light of the urgency to address the barriers hindering the roll-out of renewable energy, ARE and ECREEE have pledged to support SMEs and start-ups to upscale decentralised renewable energy and cross-sectoral collaborations in the ECOWAS region. They will do so by promoting sustainable energy policies, fit-for-purpose financing, innovative technologies and business solutions globally.
