The ECOWAS Workshop on Sustainable Wood Energy Management opened at the Palais de Congres in Cotonou, Benin, on the 9th May. The workshop is co-organized by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), in the context of the GBEP Activity Group “Towards sustainable modern wood energy development”.

Increased use of renewable energy and efficiency in the utilization of energy generally, continues to be at the heart of the goal of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)’ Renewable Energy plans for today and projections for the future.

This goal which is to bring about sustainable energy development in the West African region, also envisages energy access and security as ECOWAS races past the 40th anniversary milestone.  

OFID signs grant agreement to boost sustainable Energy Development in the ECOWAS region

Vienna, Austria, February 22, 2016. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has signed new public sector loan and grant agreements totaling over US$60m to help boost socio-economic development in nine partner countries. The agreements were signed by OFID Director-General Suleiman J Al-Herbish and high-ranking officials of the beneficiary countries, including HE Amara M. Konneh, Minister, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia, HE Mubin Mirzaev, Deputy Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan and Mr.

The “Biochar Plus” project announces the launch of the “Africa Biochar Partnership – ABP”, an open continental platform for advancing Biochar Systems in Africa. The ABP will be presented on 1st March 2016 in Nairobi (Kenya), on the occasion of the International Workshop “Biochar Systems for Africa”, organized in collaboration with “Biochar for Sustainable Soils” project.
