Multi-Thematic Workshop on the Development of the Regional Efficient Lighting Strategy in ECOWAS
The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of ECOWAS (ECREEE) and the Union Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with support of Clu-ER is organizing a workshop on the development of a regional strategy for Energy Efficient lighting scheduled to hold from 2 - 3 July, 2013 in Dakar, Senegal.
The creation of a permanent and sustainable transition to efficient lighting in ECOWAS countries is dependent on the development and implementation of national and regional strategies with an integrated policy approach that integrates global best practices. This approach ensures that all relevant aspects of policies related to energy efficient lighting are taken into account in the development of the strategy, which includes the four strategic pillars of efficient lighting:
- Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS);
- Support Policies and Mechanisms (SPM);
- Monitoring, Verification and Enforcement (MVE);
- Environmentally sound management of lighting products (ESM).
Four working groups were established based on these four strategic pillars. Since the last workshop on efficient lighting in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in April 2013, these working groups have been working on the four thematic areas.
The workshop therefore aims to:
- Present the results of the respective working groups;
- Continue the efforts of the working groups on the four components;
- Share experiences and raise awareness among participants on the different technical options available at regional and international levels;
- Develop a roadmap for further work on the strategy development.
